Ceramic Coating
What is Ceramic Coating?
Ceramic coating refers to a clear coat which uses carborundum (silicon carbide) and other ceramic nanoparticles and polymers. The main principle involves creating a chemical bond with the factory paint that is extremely durable. The layer is also completely transparent, maintaining the vibrancy of the underlying paint. It is applied to the paint of vehicles to protect it from external paint damage and has a high level of gloss that can enhance the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle. Ceramic coating creates a hydrophobic (water-repellent) surface that is easier to clean and maintain, and also provides protection against minor scratches, UV rays, chemical stains, and even corrosion.
Ceramic Coating Benefits
01
Protection from UV Damage
The coating protects the vehicle’s paint from oxidizing, preventing it from fading and wearing a dull look.
02
Hydrophobic Nature
Water beads up and rolls off the surface more easily, minimizing the risk of water spots and etching.
03
Stain and Chemical Resistance
Provides a barrier against various contaminants and chemicals that might stain or etch the paint.
04
Ease of Cleaning
Dirt and grime are less likely to stick to the surface, making it easier to clean the vehicle.
05
Enhanced Gloss
Typically enhances the gloss level of the vehicle’s paint for a more vibrant look.

Avoid Automatic Car Washes
Many automatic car washes use abrasive brushes which can harm the ceramic coating. Stick to hand washing if possible.
Avoid Waxes and Polishes
Traditional waxes and polishes are typically not necessary and can actually interfere with the hydrophobic properties of a ceramic coating. Stick to products specifically designed for maintenance of ceramic coatings.
Spot Clean Bird Droppings, Sap, and Tar
These contaminants can be very damaging to ceramic coatings if left untreated. Clean them off as soon as possible to avoid etching or staining of the coating. Specialized automotive tar and sap remover can be used, but make sure it’s safe for use on ceramic-coated surfaces.
Regular Washing
Keeping your vehicle clean is crucial for maintaining any protective coating. Dirt, grime, and other contaminants can degrade the ceramic coating over time. Use a pH-neutral, gentle car wash soap to avoid stripping the coating. Avoid using harsh detergents or dish soap as they can remove the coating.
Use the Two-Bucket Method
When washing your car, it's advisable to use the two-bucket method – one bucket for your clean, soapy water and another bucket for rinsing your mitt or sponge. This method helps avoid scratching the surface as it minimizes the amount of dirt transferred back to the paint.
Regular Inspections
Regularly check the coating for any signs of wear or damage. Pay attention to any changes in how water beads on the surface. A weakening hydrophobic effect can indicate that the coating may need attention or reapplication.
